Riot Prepares Urgent Nerf for Smolder to Reduce Power in League of Legends

8. March 2024 by Valentin Pasetti

The recent introduction of Smolder into the Summoner’s Rift has caused havoc, leading Riot Games to take immediate action to prevent the situation from escalating further. An urgent nerf is on the horizon, targeting Smolder’s E scaling and R cooldown.

Smolder’s Unintended Dominance

While Smolder was anticipated to be a fun, easy-to-use, and viable ADC character, its impact in both casual and competitive matches has exceeded expectations.

The small dragon has become a force to be reckoned with, boasting an impressive win rate of over 54% across 90,000 matches worldwide, making it one of the top-performing champions in League of Legends.

Riot’s Response: Emergency Hotfix

In light of Smolder’s overwhelming performance, Riot Games is taking decisive action to address the situation. The development team has confirmed plans for an emergency hotfix to rein in Smolder’s power, particularly focusing on its E scaling and R cooldown.

Adjustments to Smolder

  • The scaling of Smolder’s E ability will now be 5 +1 per 150 accumulations, rather than +5 every 50.
  • A fix has been implemented to correct an issue where Smolder was accumulating excessive stacks unintentionally with its E ability.
  • The cooldown of Smolder’s R ability has been adjusted from 120/110/100 to 140/130/120 seconds.

This emergency hotfix is expected to roll out imminently, with Riot Games aiming to implement it within the next few hours or no later than Wednesday.

Balancing The Game

As Riot Games addresses the overpowered state of Smolder in League of Legends, players can anticipate a more balanced gameplay experience in the near future. Keep an eye out for updates regarding the implementation of the emergency hotfix and its impact on Smolder’s performance.
