The first surprise of the 2024 VALORANT Champions Tour (VCT) comes from the East. Gen.G has been crowned the champion of the VCT Pacific Kickoff after defeating Paper Rex in the grand final with a score of 1-3.

The South Korean team has secured its first regional victory in history after spending its first two years competing within North America in VALORANT. Both finalists are the first clubs to qualify for the Masters in Madrid, which will commence on March 14th.

Gen.G’s Revenge

Gen.G exacted their particular revenge at the VCT Pacific Kickoff. The South Korean team was paired with Paper Rex in Group C, which only consisted of three participants. In the initial phase, the Indonesian club lived up to expectations by overcoming GEN.

The match went to the third map, and both teams exchanged many rounds, but the world runner-up demonstrated their superiority in those crucial moments.

While the substitution of Wang “Jinggg” Jing for Cahya “Monyet” Nugraha initially seemed ineffective, Gen.G ultimately surprised everyone in the final. After defeating DRX in the semifinals with a 0-2 score, the Kickoff winner raised eyebrows with their dominance over Paper Rex.

Initially, they secured a convincing 5-13 victory on Ascent. The world runner-ups fought back, and GEN had to struggle on Lotus to secure an 11-13 score, but the final victory came after a solid 4-13 performance on Bind.

An Ideal Introduction in the VCT Pacific

One of the standout performers for Gen.G has been Kim “Karon” Won-tae, who has been named the MVP of the VCT Pacific: Kickoff. The South Korean joined the club on November 23rd, marking his first major tournament within the VALORANT Champions Tour.

The controller impressed with his utilization of Omen, Astra, and Brimstone, agents with whom he registered a rating of 1.24 and an ACS of 214.

Gen.G’s victory over Paper Rex in the VCT Pacific Kickoff marks a significant milestone in their VALORANT journey. With impressive performances from players like Kim “Karon” Won-tae, they have demonstrated their prowess on the international stage and set a high bar for their future endeavors in the VALORANT Champions Tour.
