Riot Games has announced a significant format change for the VCT Game Changers EMEA 2024 season, expanding to include 10 teams. This shift underscores Riot’s commitment to increasing player visibility and enriching the competitive experience in the EMEA region.

Key Highlights of the Format Change

  • Focus on Player Development: Ashley Washington, Head of Game Changers EMEA, emphasized the goal to guide players through the Game Changers program, enhancing their overall experience.
  • No Partnership System: Unlike some other leagues, Riot does not intend to emulate a partnership system, focusing instead on an open, dynamic competitive environment.

Introduction of New Qualifiers

The upcoming VCT Game Changers EMEA will feature the GC EMEA Kickoff, including an Open Qualifier and a subsequent Closed Qualifier.

  • Open Qualifier: Involving 128 teams in a single-elimination format, fighting for four spots in the Closed Qualifier.
  • Closed Qualifier: Top-performing rosters from the previous year’s GC Stage 3 join the four teams from the Open Qualifier, competing in a double-elimination bracket. The top eight teams will advance to the initial stage of 2024.

Contenders Format and Relegation System

The Contenders segment will see changes in 2024:

  • Structure: Contenders will comprise 30 teams, including regional tournament invitees, open qualifier winners, and two relegated teams from GC EMEA Stages 1 and 2.
  • Promotion System: The top two teams from Contenders will earn promotion back into GC EMEA for the subsequent Stage 2 or 3.
