VCS Vietnam Suspends 32 Players for Match Fixing: League of Legends Controversy

28. March 2024 by Valentin Pasetti

The Vietnam Championship Series (VCS) has been rocked by controversy as the league suspends 32 players from the Spring split over allegations of match fixing and involvement in betting activities.

Initial Investigations and Suspension

Following initial investigations into a betting network involving players from the Spring split, Riot Games announced the indefinite suspension of the VCS. Now, with the release of the first report by the organizers, the scale of the issue appears to be more significant than previously thought.

In a statement, the VCS announced the suspension of 32 players from the eight participating teams in the Spring tournament. The suspensions come as a result of the players’ alleged involvement in match fixing, pending further investigation. The implicated players are barred from participating in Riot Games’ professional scene until the facts are clarified.

Implicated Teams and Individuals

Among the teams most heavily implicated is Rainbow Warriors, with both the coach and manager embroiled in the controversy. All suspended players have the right to appeal the accusations against them, but they are prohibited from engaging in competitive activities during the investigation.

As of the time of writing, the organizers of the Vietnam league have not disclosed the fate of the Spring tournament. However, with this extensive list of suspended players, it seems unlikely that a VCS representative will participate in the MidSeason Invitational.
