The Rocket League Championship Series (RLCS) 2024 is set to commence with notable changes, as announced by Psyonix. The developer’s announcement on Jan. 10 outlined significant shifts in the tournament structure, prize distribution, and participant eligibility.
Key Changes in RLCS 2024
- Reduced International LAN Competitions: Unlike previous seasons which featured Spring, Winter, and Fall Majors, RLCS 2024 will host only two Majors and the World Championship.
- No Specific Locations Yet: Psyonix has not disclosed the locations for these major tournaments.
- Lowered Minimum Age: The minimum age requirement has been reduced to 13, with parent or guardian consent required for minors to compete. Minors participating in in-person events must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Slot Standardization and New Regions
- Standardized Regional Slots: Europe and North America will lose one slot each, while the MENA region gains an extra slot. Sub-Saharan Africa is introduced as a new region with one slot.
- World Championship Distribution: The slot distribution for the World Championship mirrors the Majors, emphasizing global participation.
Qualification Method for Majors and World Championship
- Qualification Process: Teams will compete in three regional qualifiers for each Major, following a Double Elimination bracket, a Swiss System, and a Single Elimination bracket.
- Seasonal Performance: For the World Championship, a team’s performance throughout the season will be a determining factor.
The RLCS 2024 Season is finally here and starts with Open Qualifier 1 on January 26! We’re increasing open competition, focusing on long-term sustainability, and widening prizing for more players than ever before. Registration opens next week.
