Riot Games makes major updates to LoL rankings

9. June 2023 by miranda angeles

League of Legends developers have gone from releasing some patches with very few changes to patches loaded with new features. After patches 13.10 and 13.11, new features are coming to the game.

The Riot Games team has released a video informing all LoL players about all the changes coming soon. So the time has come to pick up the new victorious skin of the 2023 season, the rankings, and the Clash changes. Now, without further ado, let’s go over the game modifications.

Riot Games makes important updates to LoL rankings

The game developers claim that the mid-year restart is the ideal time to implement modifications so players can experience better experiences. Now, these are the changes that are going to be introduced in the game from now on:

Rank changes

Although many players are above diamond and below bronze (iron), Riot has finally recognized a problem with silver and bronze gold. They know that many players “deserve” to be one level above based on their skill. Therefore, it seems that from Split 2 onwards, Riot will no longer rank us lower than we deserve to be. Now that the allocation in the gold-centric ranks is more equitable, many players will move up.

On the other hand, Riot has decided to add a new rank between Diamond and Platinum, so this will not impact Diamond and above. If you play Wild Rift, you will be familiar with the name of this new rank, Emerald. With this new level, the game developers avoid a collapse in ranks that should be exclusive regarding game skills.

Positioning in the game

Riot Games has decided that players must now only play five ranks to determine their starting level; with the reboot, it will no longer be the ten ranks we were used to, so it will not be total but partial. In addition, they have stated that these five games will also be played during the next season.

Promotions disappear

Riot Games developers have decided to eliminate the promos for promotion; starting from the next Split, players will only advance once they complete the necessary amount of PL.

CLASH modifications and other new features

In the next Split, the changes in the ranks will not be the only modifications coming to the game. Players will also experience the following changes in the CLASH:

  • Instead of the final ranking, the Clash reward system will be based on the number of games won and lost.
  • The frequency of Clash tournaments has changed from every two weeks to once a month.
  • The game developers will host several Clash celebrations throughout the year that will not take place in Summoner’s Rift. The first celebration will be in August.
  • On the other hand, Teemo and Lee Sin will receive updates; the developers are looking to keep them in line with the rest of the champions. Changes for Lee Sin are planned for the first half of 2024, while changes for Teemo are planned for the second half of 2024.
  • Return of Star Guardians skins: Patch 13.13 will bring back Seraphine and Orianna, while patch 13.14 will return Senna.
  • Xayah and Rakan will receive a redeemed skin. Taliyah and Ashe will also receive Crystalis Motus skins. Samira will receive her final skin.
  • This season’s victorious skin will belong to Anivia.
