Riot Games has received some of the worst news any video game company can receive: a breach in its security breach that has resulted in hackers obtaining the source code for its flagship game League of Legends. This means that Riot Games, as it has confirmed on Twitter, would have suffered a hack or cyberattack last weekend, from January 21 to 23, causing among other things delays in patch releases.
However, the most serious is the confirmation that the LoL and TFT code has been leaked, which means that upcoming updates, improvements, game modes, champions and so on are in the hands of hackers. Riot assures that these are all prototypes and that many of the things prepared might not come out, but it is certainly a delicate moment for the company, which also confirms email threats.
As promised, we wanted to update you on the status of last week’s cyber attack. Over the weekend, our analysis confirmed source code for League, TFT, and a legacy anticheat platform were exfiltrated by the attackers.

Riot Games has received one of the worst news that any video game company can receive: a breach in its security breach that has caused hackers to obtain the source code of its flagship game: League of Legends.

Riot assures that these are all prototypes and that many of the things prepared might not come out, but it is certainly a delicate moment for the company, which also confirms email threats.
“Today we received a ransom mail, needless to say we are not going to pay. The most important thing is that we are confident that no personal data and information of our players has been compromised.” In addition, they claim that cheats and hacks can increase in the game, as they have the breach open and these hackers could sell the code for other types of people to create illegal software in LoL or TFT. Be that as it may, they leave a hopeful message: “This last week we have made a lot of progress and we believe that soon we will have everything fixed”, confirming that they will give more news when they have it secured.
