The extent of the impact on employees remains unclear, but the layoffs are likely part of EA’s plan to eliminate approximately 670 positions.
Respawn Confirms Layoffs
Respawn Entertainment, renowned for titles like Apex Legends and Star Wars Jedi, has confirmed layoffs within the studio. Designer Aaron Stump shared news of the layoffs on Twitter/X, confirming that the Apex Legends team has been affected. Stump expressed sadness over the situation, having worked with some developers for nearly three years.
The Apex team was hit with layoffs today. It sucks seeing some of the people I've worked with for almost 3 years now get let go. Hopefully, they land on their feet sooner rather than later.

Acknowledging Departures
Alex Ackerman, Respawn’s Global Social Media Lead, was among those laid off after nearly five years with the company. Ackerman, who has been involved in the development of 20 Apex seasons, also addressed the situation on Twitter/X.
After 20 Seasons of Apex and 5 years at Respawn nearly to the day, my job has been made redundant and I have been laid off.
Working on this game and supporting this community has truly been the honor of my career and a highlight of my life.
Thank you for everything, legends ❤️— Alex Ackerman🌙 (@alex_frostwolf) March 14, 2024
EA’s Company-wide Plan
Currently, the total number of affected employees at Respawn remains uncertain. However, these layoffs are likely part of EA’s plan to cut approximately 670 positions across the company, as announced earlier in March. Additionally, the decision also led to the cancellation of the Star Wars FPS project.
