Niantic is set to make a significant splash with the introduction of Necrozma and its fusion variants at Pokémon GO Fest 2024. This event marks the debut of the Legendary Pokémon Necrozma, along with the ability to fuse it with either Solgaleo or Lunala to create Dusk Mane Necrozma or Dawn Wings Necrozma. This new fusion mechanic promises to add an exciting dimension to the game.
Debut of Necrozma
Starting with GO Fest 2024: Sendai on May 30, players will have the opportunity to encounter Necrozma in special event raids. This marks Necrozma’s first appearance in Pokémon GO, bringing a new challenge for players to capture this Legendary Pokémon.
Fusion Mechanic: Dusk Mane and Dawn Wings Necrozma
The fusion mechanic allows players to combine their captured Necrozma with Solgaleo or Lunala to obtain Dusk Mane Necrozma or Dawn Wings Necrozma. This feature is a first for Pokémon GO, despite a similar fusion mechanic being unintentionally introduced with Kyurem’s fusions in December.

Requirements for Fusion
To fuse Necrozma with Solgaleo or Lunala, players need:
- 1,000 Solar Fusion Energy (for Solgaleo) or 1,000 Lunar Fusion Energy (for Lunala)
- 30 Necrozma Candy
- 30 Cosmog Candy
These new Energy types, Solar Fusion Energy and Lunar Fusion Energy, function similarly to Mega Energy or Primal Energy and are labeled as “very rare sources of power.”
Obtaining Solar and Lunar Fusion Energy
The method to obtain Solar and Lunar Fusion Energy will vary throughout the summer event schedule of GO Fest 2024:
- Physical Events: Initially, these Energy types will be available only to participants of the physical events in Sendai, Madrid, and New York City. They can be earned through branching Special Research tasks.
- Global Event: During GO Fest 2024: Global on July 13 and 14, Dusk Mane Necrozma and Dawn Wings Necrozma will be part of the five-star raid rotation. Defeating them in raids will award their respective Fusion Energy.
Additional Event Features
Apart from the Necrozma fusions, GO Fest 2024 will include:
- Ultra Wormholes Special Research: Free Special Research tasks will allow players to investigate Ultra Wormholes and encounter another Cosmog.
- Marshadow Debut: The Mythical Pokémon Marshadow will make its debut through event-exclusive research tasks.
