Riot Games has officially confirmed that all beer-related references will be removed from Gragas, one of the game’s oldest champions. This change will take effect in patch 25.9, and fans are already divided about the decision.
According to Andrei van Roon, head of League Studio, the popular ability “Drunken Rage” will now be renamed “Strident Rage” to comply with age-rating regulations across different global regions.
Why Riot Is Making This Change
This adjustment is part of a broader effort by Riot to ensure League of Legends maintains its accessibility across markets. Some regions have strict rules about alcohol-related content, especially in games targeting young audiences.
Additionally, Gragas’ ability description has been altered. Previously, the ability made him “empowered and drunk.” Now, it will describe him as becoming “boisterous and belligerent” instead.

Not Riot’s First Censorship Move
This is not the first time Riot has altered content for rating reasons. Previously, Graves’ cigar was removed from the game due to similar concerns over tobacco references.
