LCS: Team Liquid unveils roster for 2023

6. January 2023 by Andrew Williams

American organization Team Liquid has unveiled its new team for 2023. After a complicated season in the LCS, the North American league, the roster has been completely changed. As a result, players such as Frenchman Steven “Hans Sama” Liv and our Belgian representative Gabriel “Bwipo” Rau had to leave.

The Team Liquid super team has had a complicated season, with the low point being an unsuccessful qualification for the Worlds. Therefore, the roster, composed of experienced Europeans such as Frenchman Steven “Hans Sama” Liv and our Belgian representative Gabriel “Bwipo” Rau, would get a new look next season.

The organization has decided to completely change course. Of the old roster, only Korean support Jo “CoreJJ” Yong-in will remain.

Liquid spared no expense to surround the former Gen.G player. For the jungle, DRX world champion Hong “Pyosik” Chang-hyeon was recruited. A promising transfer given his recent achievements.

He will be joined in 2023 by top planner Park “Summit” Woo-tae who comes straight from the FunPlus Phoenix in the LPL. For midlane, the organization relies on its academy team. Harry “Haeri” Kang may continue to grow on Liquid’s main team next season.

American Sean “Yeon” Sunger, another player on the academy team, will support CoreJJ on the botlane. A mix of experience, youth and a world champion. So Team Liquid will look very different in 2023, but the ambitions seem just as big.

So the roster for the new season looks as follows:

  • Park “Summit” Woo-tae
  • Hong “Pyosik” Chang-hyeon
  • Harry “Haeri” Kang
  • Sean “Yeon” Sung
  • Jo “CoreJJ” Yong-in
  • Jang “MaRin” Gyeong-hwan (head coach)
  • Kim “Reignover” Yeu-jin (assistant coach)

It remains to be seen if the new teammates will get along. The first LCS split promises to be interesting to watch.
