Japanese team DetonatioN FocusMe makes history in the Asian region; we are talking about the team that has won the most LoL regional competitions.

DetonatioN FocusMe (DFM) is one of the team names that always comes to mind when discussing League of Legends in Japan. DFM is currently the most successful team in the Japanese LoL league, LPL, thanks to the fact that it is the team with the most regional championships won. In addition, the team has had the opportunity to represent the country on the international stage most often.

However, 2023 is a year that will remain in the improvement of DFM players and will be remembered with special affection. By qualifying for the Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) during the 2023 Spring Split, the team broke a record that no team had ever achieved.

DetonatioN FocusMe breaks record for number of championships won

DetonatioN FocusMe becomes the only team in LoL history to be crowned champion 15 times in the region. This record has not been achieved even by teams like T1 or G2 Esports, who have reached the same achievement in the major regions. Not even in other competitions have they managed to emulate a similar case in terms of success.

DFM conquered its 15th league title with a 3-0 victory over Sengoku Gaming, the regular phase leader. Sengoku Gaming came into the competition as the favorite with players such as Bok “Reapered” Han-gyu, the former coach of Cloud9, and Lee “LokeN” Dong-wook, former JD Gaming player; however, it was not enough to beat DFM.

On the other hand, DetonatioN FocusMe, besides being the one who won the most leagues worldwide, DFM is now the second team in history to have won five consecutive splits.

The Japanese squad would surpass the defunct Taiwanese club if it were to win the championship again during the upcoming Summer Split. On the other hand, Team Liquid and G2 Esports in the West are just one split away from matching this record.

DFM has a great future after Evi’s departure

The departure of Heretics squad star Shunsuke “Evi” Murase, who became the first Japanese player in history to sign for an LoL LEC EMEA Championship squad, strongly impacted DetonatioN FocusMe at the beginning of 2023. However, the team has managed to keep the key core of players such as:

  • Lee “Harp” Ji-yoong
  • Yuta “Yutapon” Sugiura
  • Mun “Steal” Geon-yeong

In addition, Lee “Aria” Ga-eul returns to the team to play in the center lane after a quiet year at KT Rolster. While on the other hand, the team has signed 20-year-old Haruki “tol2” Shibata to play in the top lane after being promoted directly from the academy.
