Oleksandr “s1mple” Kostyliev, revered as one of the greatest players in Counter-Strike history, has been away from the competitive scene since October. However, in a recent revelation at the Intel Extreme Masters (IEM) in Katowice, s1mple announced his much-anticipated return to the game, marking a new chapter in his illustrious career.

A Brief Hiatus

Since his break after the 18th season of the ESL Pro League, where Natus Vincere (NAVI) finished as runners-up, s1mple’s absence has been a significant talking point in the CS2 community. Despite a 3-0 defeat against MOUZ in that final, his legacy as a formidable player remained undisputed.

s1mple’s Return: Post-Major Plans

s1mple aims to return to competitive play after the Copenhagen Major, the first-ever Counter-Strike 2 Major, scheduled from March 17 to 31. This sets his potential comeback around April or May, assuming all goes as planned.

NAVI’s Performance in His Absence

NAVI’s early exit from the IEM Katowice at the group stage, following a loss to Team Falcons, highlights the team’s struggle without their star player. s1mple’s return could provide the much-needed boost for the team.

The Role of s1mple in NAVI’s Future: The Sixth Player Strategy

s1mple has expressed his desire to be the sixth player for NAVI in the upcoming Major, showing support for the current roster that has been practicing hard during his hiatus. His return is not about displacing anyone but rather contributing to the team’s progress post-Major.

The Temporary Substitute

In s1mple’s absence, Ihor “w0nderful” Zhdanov has temporarily filled the void. However, replacing a player of s1mple’s caliber is no small feat, and his return will undoubtedly be a significant moment for both NAVI and the global CS2 community.
