Although Valve’s game is still accessible in Russia, the publication has overcome the censorship barrier. At the moment, a CS:GO map allows Russian inhabitants to see the real situation in Ukraine.

New map available in CS:GO

The community has created a new map, so all players can add it for free and enjoy custom games. However, this is practically an everyday occurrence and has become prominent news.

Now, why this new map has attracted so much attention if, at first glance, it looks like a normal Slavic city, however, under the ground, there could be something hidden, precisely this secret is what has generated the applause of the gaming community.

An informative map in CS:GO on the armed conflict between Russia and Ukraine

The new map bears the name “de_voyna” and was published by two community members who have preferred to remain anonymous. The final version of the new map was published on May 3, the World Press Freedom Day.

This map was designed to get information about the current armed conflict between Russia and Ukraine; it was specially designed for Russian players. However, any player anywhere in the world can play it.

It is important to note that since the war started, Russia decided to limit access to social networks such as Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. This way, the citizens of that country do not find out what is going on in Ukraine.

The idea of this CS:GO information map is the work of the Finnish newspaper Helsing Sanomat. Those responsible for this idea saw an opportunity to inform Russian players through Valve’s game. It is important to note that this is one of the few games still accessible in the country.

On the other hand, it is also important to note that the population of Russia enjoys Valve’s title very much; approximately four million Russians enjoy playing CS:GO; these figures were published by the newspaper Helsing Sanomat.

The secret room in the new map

This map is barely functional, as all efforts are focused on getting players into a secret room. Unfortunately, the room is hidden in such a way that there are only two ways to enter.

The first way to enter is by using the free camera in spectator mode, and the second way is by activating tricks to go through the walls. Once players enter the secret room, they find a room with red walls that includes photos and other details about the war that the Russian media are not allowed to show or manipulate in any way.

On the other hand, in the secret room, there is an announcer who narrates in Russian three different news stories:

  • The first news item concerns the Bucha massacre, where Russian soldiers indiscriminately shot Ukrainian civilians.
  • The second news item narrates the tragedy of a family hit by a Russian missile while one of the family members was shopping.
  • The third and last news item reveals that, to date, 70,000 Russian soldiers have lost their lives in the armed conflict.
