CCT North Europe Series 4 won by Astralis Talent

17. March 2023 by Andrew Williams

GamerLegion lost the final game in the CCT North Europe Series 4 against Astralis Talents. The Danish Academy roster looks extremely strong after a winstreak of nine games. The Academy team of Astralis managed to take the win and a prize money of 22,000 US dollars after two tight maps.

Biggest success for Astralis Talent

The young team has not been champions on the international stage so far, but won local events like NPF Invitational and Energive Cup 2022. They are sitting at a pretty good 73rd place in the worldranking due to good performances overall. But the Championship is a huge boost to their confidence for sure! Mikkel “MistR” Thomsen and Kristoffer “Kristou” Aamand have already played for the main team and managed to get a 3rd-4th finish at Elisa Masters Espoo 2022. So the youngsters aren’t all that inexperienced.

This time around Alexander “Altekz” Givskov topped the charts and carried his teammates, coming in at a 1.33 rating in the finals and being rated at 1.24 for the tournament as a whole. For GamerLegion, it is the second major loss in a row during their CCT run. Spirit Academy lately knocked them out of the CCT West Europe Series 1. This second loss unfortunately doesn’t really raise hopes for the team’s RMR run for the BLAST.tv Paris Major Europe. The RMR will prove a huge test for GamerLegion, their group is pretty hard, featuring FaZe, Natus Vincere and Outsiders.

GamerLegion can’t stop Talents

Astralis Talent started their tournament run in the Closed Qualifier, where they were able to defeat MASONIC. Overcoming Nexus, Sangal and VOYVODA in the group stage swiss-system and ending 3-0 was a huge surprise for many, but only a sign of whats to come. In the playoffs the Talents marched on and picked up huge wins versus Copenhagen Flames (2:0) and even overcoming SINNERS with a 2:1 aswell as 500, who fell flat aswell. Their opponents in the final, GamerLegion, were their toughest challenge, ranked 27th, they had a direct invite to the last stage of the event. In theory the massive favorite! They made the best out of it as they were able to defeat ECSTATIC and SAW.

After that they had played against Let us cook, who even managed to beat Fnatic in the tournament. Janusz “Snax” Pogorzelski and co. almost defeated GL but failed on map three. GamerLegion was the absolute favorite in the final and everything looked like they would live up to it after a good start. They were up 7:0 on Overpass but gave away the lead. In the second half, Astralis Talent caught up with ten turns to take the close win. The Academy roster was also too strong on their pick, Ancient. GamerLegion had relinquished its lead after leading 14-10 on the CT side. Congratulations to Astralis Talent and hopefully GamerLegion can recover quickly after the loss!
