4. May 2023 by Andrew Williams

The Russian CS:GO line-up of Cloud9 defeated the Danes of Astralis 2-1 in the deciding BO3 of the Brazy Party (Overpass 5-16, Vertigo 16-7, Inferno 16-12). The team thus secured its second online tournament win of the year and more than $100,000 in prize money.

All eyes were on Alexander “Altekz” Givskov, who made his debut for Astralis at Brazy Party, and he more than lived up to the hype. The team’s final appearance is proof that the Danes are on the right track to recover from their failed qualification for the 2023 Paris Major.

Astralis vs. Cloud9

The match between the two teams started on Astralis’ map Pick Overpass. Lukas “gla1ve” Rossander lead his squad to a fast 5-0 scoreline on the attack. Cloud9 didn’t really manage to keep up at that point. Benjamin “blameF” Bremer of Astralis made 17 kills and went into the change of ends with a five-round buffer.

Astralis managed to get three kills after the side change and secure the second pistol round on the map. En route to their convincing 16-5 win on Overpass they also clutched a 3 vs 5 to snuff out any resistance by C9.

After that, it was Vertigo’s turn. Cloud9 took the initiative and made it 4-1 on the T-side. Then Astralis managed to rally as the half progressed, with BlameF in particular helping his team build a 5-4 advantage. Cloud9 managed to regain the lead, mostly thanks to Dmitry “sh1ro” Sokolov. After winning five out of six rounds they built a nice cushion before heading to the CT-side.

HObbit helped his team to a double-digit lead, and from then on Cloud9 never let off the gas pedal. Cloud9 only surrendered one round in the entire game and kept overpowering Astralis. They went on to win Vertigo 16-7.

Decisive match on Inferno

The third and final map was Inferno. Cloud9 took round three and took control on the T-side. Cloud9 was able to string together another five rounds to take a 6-2 lead midway through the first half. device made 17 kills but even that wasn’t enough to keep Astralis from a lopsided defeat. Cloud9 took a 9-6 lead.

Cloud9 wins Brazy Party

Astralis caught up and it was 9:9, but then Cloud9 stepped on the gas again and dominated from then on. Cloud9 won Inferno 16:12 and won Brazy Party. Cloud9 thus earned $133,000 in prize money. Vladislav “nafany” Gorshkov and his team will next set their sights on IEM Dallas, which will take place from May 29 to June 4. After their success at Brazy Party, Cloud9 will try to repeat their 2022 success at IEM Dallas and secure another title. While it wasn’t the result they were hoping for, Astralis can go home with their heads held high after a valiant performance in the online competition. Although they didn’t take home the main prize, the team played well and in a coordinated manner.
