Aurora Gaming Drops Entire Dota 2 Roster – What’s Next for the Organization?

5. February 2025 by Valentin Pasetti

Aurora Gaming has made a shocking decision to release its entire Dota 2 roster, leaving top players like Abed Azel “Abed” Yusop, Anucha “Jabz” Jirawong, and Worawit “Q” Mekchai available for transfers. Meanwhile, Jinn Marrey “Palos” Lamatao, Chon Kien “Oli” Chan, and coach Jeong Jae “SunBhie” Lee are now free agents.

Despite this drastic move, the Serbian esports organization has assured its fans that it will remain in the competitive Dota 2 scene. However, questions remain regarding what’s next for Aurora and whether they will rebuild from scratch or take a different direction.

Aurora’s Struggles in Early 2025

While Aurora did not provide an official reason for the roster disbandment, the team’s recent performances suggest that poor results may have been a key factor. The squad qualified for DreamLeague Season 25 through the Southeast Asian qualifier but failed to make a deep run.

Additionally, their 5th-6th place finish in ESL One Raleigh 2025’s SEA qualifier and an early exit at FISSURE PLAYGROUND Belgrade 2025 (placing 12th-14th) further highlighted the team’s struggles.

A Brief History of Aurora in Dota 2

Aurora Gaming entered the professional Dota 2 scene in November 2023 with a strong lineup featuring Nuengnara “23savage” Teeramahanon, Armel Paul “Armel” Tabios, Jabz, Q, and Oli. Their journey was filled with mixed results, but they made a significant mark by finishing 7th-8th at The International 2024.

After TI 2024, the team underwent major changes, releasing 23savage, Lorenof, and Oli while adding Abed as their new mid-laner. However, the team struggled to find the right balance, cycling through various players before finalizing a lineup that, unfortunately, failed to deliver consistent results.

Aurora’s Official Statement and Future Plans

In their announcement, Aurora Gaming expressed gratitude to their departing players, acknowledging the challenges and triumphs they faced together.

It has been an incredibly long and exhausting journey. We have experienced both jokes and frustrations, successes and disappointments. Now, unfortunately, it is time to part ways,” Aurora stated.

“We are eternally grateful to EVERY SINGLE player for all the emotions and memories that we will save in our hearts. Thank you! You are the real legends!”

Despite releasing their entire roster, Aurora has confirmed that they are not leaving Dota 2 entirely. The organization promised to announce its next move soon, leaving fans speculating about a potential rebuild or a fresh approach to their competitive strategy.

What’s Next for Aurora Gaming?

With Aurora Gaming still committed to the Dota 2 scene, there are several possible directions they could take:

  • Rebuilding from Scratch: The organization may assemble a brand-new roster, potentially focusing on younger talent or unproven players.
  • Signing an Established Team: Aurora could acquire an existing competitive squad to fast-track their return to the upper tiers of competition.
  • Partnering with International Players: A mix of Southeast Asian and international talent could be a strategy to create a more competitive lineup.

Final Thoughts

For now, the Dota 2 community eagerly awaits Aurora Gaming’s next move, as they look to bounce back from this drastic roster overhaul.
